A rare swim repeated, 33 years later

In August 1987, Sharon Miller (Price) became the 3rd person to swim from Eddystone Rocks & Lighthouse back to the coast of Plymouth, England. This inspiring route laid dormant and mostly unknown outside England until September of this year, when Neil Brinkworth became #4. His predecessor Sharon was there to embrace him on the steps at Plymouth Hoe, 33 years after her own success.

We swim on the shoulders of giants, drawing inspiration and courage from those who set off across uncharted waters in nothing but a swimsuit, cap, and goggles. Neil’s swim was documented through MSF – see observer Kate Robarts’ report. A new LongSwimsDB page listing all four Eddystone Rocks swims (starting with Jabez Wolffe in 1914) is now published.
